3⁄4 cup plus 2 Tbsp. flour 1⁄2 tsp. baking powder
1⁄2 tsp. salt
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup shortening
2 oz. (2 squares) unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup chopped walnut
Mix flour, baking powder and salt; set aside. In lg. bowl beat sugar and butter until mixed. Add eggs and beat until very light and fluffy. Beat in chocolate and vanilla. Fold in flour mixture. Stir in walnuts. Turn into greased 8x8x2 inch baking pan, and bake at 350 for 25 minutes or until top is shiny and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Do not over bake.
Cool in pan on rack about 30 minutes; then cut into squares. Makes 16 lg. brownies.
